Sister Nancy – ‘Bam Bam’ is number one

Sister Nancy went from toasting on the sound systems to now having a song ranked in the 500 Greatest songs of all time. She is one of the first female Reggae artists to conquer the Jamaican dancehall scene.

To say, Sister Nancy hasn’t put in her fair share of work and sweat is an understatement, Pleasing to know she is now getting her just reward. Locally and especially Internationally “Bam Bam” is her biggest hit, sampled so many times, Jay Z and Damian Marley, Kanye West and Rihanna, Chris Brown, and more.

You may have thought Sister Nancy had royalties coming her way for such a hit. Nope, she only embarked on getting royalties for “Bam Bam” in 2014. There are big songs and “Bam Bam” is one of them, Billboard Magazine said, “it’s a strong contender for the most sampled Reggae song of all time.” Rolling Stone ranked it in the 500 greatest songs of all time list in 2021.

Recorded in 1982 produced by Winston Riley, it was inspired by Toots And The Maystals 1966 song of the same title.

Films and dramas are exceptionally useful now in getting awareness of music. Sister Nancy “Bam Bam” was featured on Netflix’s crime drama Ozark. After the airing of Ozark the song rose to number one on the Top 100 Reggae albums chart on iTunes.
