Dancehall artist Valiant recently dropped a heavy truth bomb: “People talk about unity, but in reality, it isn’t true.” He might be onto something.

Dancehall has thrived on competition, clashing, rivalries, and strong personalities. So the big question is: Can all Dancehall artists unite under one banner for the culture? Or are the egos, past beefs, and different agendas just too deep?

Historically, true unity in Dancehall has been rare. Movements like Alliance and Gully/Gaza showed how crews can shake the game, but even those had internal fractures. Still, these alliances proved that strength in numbers can amplify the message and the music.

But do we need unity? Artists are touring, streaming, and eating well. Maybe selective collaboration and mutual respect are enough. Unity could help elevate the genre globally, bring better structure, and perhaps even more industry power. But forced unity? That might water down the fire that makes Dancehall raw and real.

So while unity sounds nice, maybe Dancehall’s real strength is in its beautiful chaos.
