Ginjah ‘Survival’ album is lava hot

“We did all the production, all the work on this album from inception to the finish. Musicians featured on the album are Earl “Chinna” Smith, Chris Meredith, Desi Jones, Dalton Browne, Vivian Scott, and Everald Gayle,” Andrew Pennicott (Young Veterans)

‘Jah By My Side’ is the intro track and it sets the mood of what to anticipate. The one-drop rhythm is well cemented and you will be hooked on the sweet Reggae vibes.

This is a Reggae album with lots of different sounds that will take you on a musical journey. There are songs addressing many topics with social commentary, love song, uplifting, Ginjah really sat down and made sure there is something for everybody. Ginjah’s sound and the amazing vocal capabilities that have always set him apart on whatever track he voices are there.

‘Fire Blaze’ is a caution to many people who live a double life. Vanity and sin as a perennial topic are well addressed on this track.  ‘Jah Light’ is a prayer. Shining brightly on this album, for all the lovers of sweet Reggae music, this one is right up your street. The solid roots bass on this track will be loved.

‘Shootie Shootie’ addresses gun violence among the youths in the streets of Jamaica and the world. The catchy punch line and hard-hitting lyrics make this track a standout one from the album. Taking us through narrative storytelling, Ginjah’s writing skills shine.

Peace of mind isn’t the easiest thing to find and Ginjah touches on this topic on ‘Many Mountains’. This one is just brilliant another great song from the album.

‘White Lies’ is a reminder to the black race of slavery and colonialism still rife to date. The drumming on this song is quite amazing and Ginjah’s vocals blend in perfectly.

‘Be Alone’ is definitely another stand out track. Despite the anxiety and the lonely feeling, don’t worry you have God by you, so keep strong.

‘Survival’ is the title track from the album and its fitting. Ginjah explains how Jah keeps him strong and he’s found peace. With a lay back Reggae sound, this one makes you think deep.

The attention to detail from fellow musicians like Earl “Chinna” Smith, Chris Meredith, Desi Jones, Dalton Browne, Vivian Scott, and Everald Gayle adds magic to this masterpiece.   In this pandemic era, pick this album up, grab some herbal tea and just allow the music to resonate in you! It will uplift you. Engineering from Young Veterans headed by principals Sheldon and Andrew Penicott is quite stunning.
